Daso

Mixed Breed · Male · 3 years

"And Daily Greeteth the Groundhog" Gender: male, neutered Date of Birth: Aug. 2017 In animal shelter since: Nov. 2020 Gets along with dogs: yes Gets along with cats: no Has children in the same household: no Looking for a home with a garden and its own dog area/chamber The lovable, 2017-born mixed-breed male dog Daso is looking for people who can give him security, especially through fixed routines that become part of his daily routine and make his everyday life predictable. The handsome male dog is very insecure, and routine gives him security because he is familiar with these routines. His insecurity often leads to the fact that he does not want to be approached and therefore cannot wear his chest harness – then he cannot be led on a walk. For this reason, Daso needs a home with a garden. He expresses his unwillingness to be approached by barking, growling, and showing pretend attacks towards people. Daso has not bitten in these situations yet. The handsome fellow is compatible with other animals, also behaves impeccably during encounters on the leash. However, he has a strong prey drive and should therefore not share his new home with cats or small animals. Daso is house-trained, rides calmly in the car, public transportation trips scare him, so they should be avoided. He loves long, relaxed walks and swimming. Daso is eager to learn and intelligent, very affectionate and clingy with familiar people. We are looking for a home without children and without other animals for him. "I have to be honest: I make it hard for you… I am affectionate and clingy when the ice is broken between us, but my sponsors and caretakers train with me on my low frustration tolerance and my resource-defensive behavior. Since I have a lot of stress in the animal shelter, it is difficult for me to learn in this environment. In my future home, it will be easier for me – so you should bring training readiness. Because outside the animal shelter – without stress – I am very eager to learn! And the daily routine I have here gives me uncanny security because I always know what is coming through the fixed routines, and I can therefore prepare for it. Are you the person who will take me in?"

About Daso

What life with Daso looks like

Daso is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Daso, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Daso?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Daso on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Daso if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Daso already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Daso isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Daso and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
