Dedza

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Senior · 11 years

Certification of Owner / Permanent Foster Family | Temperament: Very gentle and affectionate with humans. Rescued by a Parisian animal welfare association after spending her entire life in a cage for breeding purposes, she was entrusted to our shelter. Adoption of this type of dog was not possible until now, so we have taken care of her in anticipation of the rules changing. This is now done. Despite all the love and attention we have given her over these years, Dedza needs to be adopted. This 11-year-old grandma will be placed in a permanent foster home (meaning she will remain under the name of the shelter), but will spend her remaining days with her new owners. In terms of behavior, she tends to destroy her blankets (perhaps because she is bored), but she is otherwise very calm, enjoys very short walks, and does not pull. She is not a dog, cat, or any other farm animal.

About Dedza

What life with Dedza looks like

Dedza is a senior american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Refuge des Bérauds (Romans-sur-Isère) in Romans-sur-Isère.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dedza, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dedza?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Refuge des Bérauds (Romans-sur-Isère) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dedza on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dedza if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Refuge des Bérauds (Romans-sur-Isère) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dedza already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dedza isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Refuge des Bérauds (Romans-sur-Isère) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dedza and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
