Luther

Belgian Malinois · Male · Senior · 10 years

Eligible for the headmaster contract Luther, a new arrival, came to us with an enormous muzzle scar. He never left it, as far as we know, to avoid barking or destroying things. He didn't receive much love, but he's not at all vengeful towards the humans he adores. He has had health issues, of course, which we have fully taken care of (toe amputation, arthritis, sensitive paw pads...). He is ready to go to a master (or mistress) who understands the character of malinois and can provide a kind and educational framework. Luther touched everyone's heart at the shelter, as his suffering is clearly visible on his unhappy dog face. He would prefer to go to a family without children or other animals. Luther doesn't have many needs, simply to be a faithful dog for a present human. Luther gardens, he loves to pull up clumps of grass. If you have a French-style garden, avoid adopting Luther. This animal is not suitable for homes with young children. This animal is for adult-only homes.

About Luther

What life with Luther looks like

Luther is a senior belgian malinois dog waiting at Refuge des Bérauds (Romans-sur-Isère) in Romans-sur-Isère.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luther, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luther?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Refuge des Bérauds (Romans-sur-Isère) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luther on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luther if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Refuge des Bérauds (Romans-sur-Isère) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luther already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luther isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Refuge des Bérauds (Romans-sur-Isère) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luther and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
