Delfino

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

In our abandoned cat animal shelter, we receive very different stories. Some speak of rebirth and adoption, while others teach us the importance of respecting the time and character of each animal. This is the case of Delfino, a special cat who arrives from afar. Delfino comes from Abruzzo, where he lived in a difficult situation. Like many feral cats, he experienced the harsh life on the streets, filled with fear, suspicion, and survival. When he arrived with us, he was very scared and closed off. Over time, he found a safer environment, regular food, and care, but he remains a very shy cat and not very inclined to human contact. Every cat has a unique story and character, and part of our work at an animal welfare shelter is precisely to respect these aspects. Not all cats are ready to live in a home or be adopted traditionally. Delfino, at least for now, prefers to observe the world from a distance and maintain his distance. For this reason, we are looking for a distance adoption for him. This is a concrete and valuable way to help the more timid or traumatized cats that would rarely find a family. With a distance adoption, you can contribute to his veterinary care, food, and maintenance within our animal shelter for rescued feral cats. Supporting cats like Delfino also means supporting our mission: fighting feralism, promoting cat sterilization, and offering a second chance to many animals that have lived through difficult situations. If you want to help Delfino and become his distance guardian angel, we invite you to read the section on distance adoptions on our website, where you will find all the information on how to participate. Even if he remains a bit distant, Delfino will still feel your help. And it will make a real difference for him. About Delfino

What life with Delfino looks like

Delfino is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Delfino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Delfino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Delfino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Delfino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Delfino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Delfino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Delfino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
