Detroit

Male

Detroit is a beautiful pitbull mix who has spent several years in the dog pound, and we can't understand how he has gone unnoticed for so long, waiting for an opportunity. Now he has arrived at the animal rescue association, and we hope that in a little while, someone will see him and give him the opportunity he has been waiting for. We don't know his past, only that he has been in the dog pound for several years. What we do know is the way he lowers his head, flops to the ground, and whimpers in fear—fear of a sudden movement, a slightly faster caress, or something he wasn't expecting, especially from men. And it's then that we understand that when he reacts in that way, it's because at some point in his life, someone did not treat him as he deserved. Despite his fear, he greets us with joy, wagging his tail, giving us kisses. He does not hold a grudge, and he hasn't completely lost his trust. He simply needs gentleness, patience, and love to learn that he doesn't have to be afraid. He is a loving, playful, and noble dog, one that just wants to be close, to feel that everything is okay. Detroit deserves to be happy, with a family that treats him with respect and love... as he should have from the start. If you are interested in meeting Detroit, please send us an email!

About Detroit

What life with Detroit looks like

Detroit is a adult dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Detroit, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Detroit?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Detroit on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Detroit if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Detroit already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Detroit isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Detroit and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
