Deutsch Langhaar Rüde „Keno“

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

German Longhaired Dog Name: Keno, born on January 10, 2025. He is not neutered, has received all necessary vaccinations, and has been regularly dewormed. Keno comes from a hunting breeding program. From an early age, he was warmly welcomed into our family, which includes two young children (ages 2 and 5) and an older dog. From the very beginning, he was taught basic obedience, which he can carry out quite well. There have never been any incidents involving the children or other dogs. Keno is playful, attentive, sensitive—but not fearful. He has a wonderful zest for life and is extremely trusting. When visitors come over, he’s always friendly and doesn’t even bark when they arrive. His hips have been X-rayed, and everything is fine. During preparation for the VJP (Veterinary Examination for Hunting Dogs), I noticed that he couldn’t quite deliver the same level of performance as a younger dog his age. Nevertheless, he successfully completed the VJP. Later, a heart specialist diagnosed him with a minor heart valve defect as well as incomplete cardiac perforation. Unfortunately, these two conditions together mean that after about 30 minutes—depending on the type of work—he starts to pant heavily, lies down, and becomes completely exhausted. Overexertion could lead to collapse. For this reason, he’s unfortunately unsuitable for hunting activities. According to the veterinarian, the defect might still “grow out” over time—but it’s impossible to say whether or when that will happen. Since our older dog is also unwell, we simply can’t give both dogs the attention they need at the same time. We’d be very happy if Keno could find a loving home where, despite his minor health limitations, he’d be allowed to live an active life. Children and other dogs are no problem for him. He does not get along well with cats. For further information: Jagdhunde in Not e.V., Kornelia Ritter.

Frequently asked

Adopting Deutsch Langhaar Rüde „Keno“, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Deutsch Langhaar Rüde „Keno“?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Jagdhunde in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Deutsch Langhaar Rüde „Keno“ on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Deutsch Langhaar Rüde „Keno“ if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Jagdhunde in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Deutsch Langhaar Rüde „Keno“ already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Deutsch Langhaar Rüde „Keno“ isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Jagdhunde in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Deutsch Langhaar Rüde „Keno“ and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
