Dexter (FB)

Mixed Breed · Male

PS Sarah, born: 04/24, male dog. On the Finca since 11/2025. Pointer breed Dexter could travel to Lower Saxony for a foster home in mid-January. There, he has adapted very well and has integrated himself into the existing small pack of two other dogs. The cohabitation is harmonious. Dexter shows uncomplicated, social, and very trainable behavior both indoors and outdoors. On his foster home, Dexter makes daily progress. He settles in well in both the home environment and during walks, orienting himself well to his humans and showing himself as a balanced, friendly, and cheerful companion. He is housebroken, and the stay together with the two other dogs is working very well. The planned orthopedic specialist appointment for clarification of the older fracture on the front leg has already taken place. There, Dexter was thoroughly orthopedically examined. In addition to palpating the limbs and checking joint mobility, an assessment of the gait was also performed. His gait showed an unremarkable pattern without visible lameness. A control X-ray of the affected front leg was also taken. This showed a well-healed humerus fracture with clear callus formation and advanced remodeling to a load-bearing bone. Both the shoulder and elbow joints appeared normal and are in correct alignment relative to each other. Overall, the findings were very encouraging. From an orthopedic perspective, no indication for an operative correction exists based on the clinical and radiological findings; an osteotomy correction is not necessary. The treating veterinarian was very satisfied with the healing process and gave Dexter a good prognosis. According to current assessment, it is expected that he can lead a normal, active dog life. Normal load-bearing, including running and jumping, is given from a veterinary perspective. There are currently no indications of foreseeable limitations or necessary further treatments. Before Dexter could travel to Germany, he was taken in by our animal protection colleagues Sarah and Sven from a Perera in the south. Despite the difficult circumstances, he showed from the start to be open, friendly, and human-oriented. The noticeable limp on the front leg was not to be missed, but his general condition was good, allowing him to be initially housed on the Finca. With this very positive orthopedic assessment, Dexter can now start his search for his forever home. If you have fallen in love with this handsome fellow, please feel free to contact us; based on previous communication, Dexter can also be visited at his foster home.

About Dexter (FB)

What life with Dexter (FB) looks like

Dexter (FB) is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dexter (FB), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dexter (FB)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dexter (FB) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dexter (FB) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dexter (FB) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dexter (FB) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dexter (FB) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
