Dexter was brought to us at Tierschutz-Zentrum by an official order. His previous owner could not cope with Dexter's nature, and things just kept piling up, so Dexter ended up with us. However, we promised him something from the very beginning: at Tierschutz-Zentrum, we look forward. We cannot change what's behind him. But we can help him look forward to a better future together – and that's exactly what we want to do. Dexter is a dog who needs to be seen and met as an individual. He needs calm, confident people who take time for him and can set boundaries consistently, but always fairly. They need to provide him with frameworks and rules that give him security, while also accepting that a dog can have a free will and his own personality. Above all, we want people to approach Dexter without prejudice. People who don't ask why something didn't work in the past, but are curious about who Dexter really is. He needs to be given the opportunity to develop trust between him and people, without being rushed or pressured. He needs to find his place with people who don't want to force him into a predetermined mold. Because for Dexter, what's behind him shouldn't be the determining factor. It's what's ahead of him that matters.
