Dickens

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Name: Dickens Breed: mixed breed Gender: male Size: approx. 48 cm Age: 28.09.2022 Weight: approx. 18 kg Child-friendly: Yes Compatible with fellow animals: Yes Compatible with cats: must be tested Neutered: Yes Veterinarian Information: microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, EU-Pass Mediterranean test: negative Remarks: APAP.PLASENCIA Current Location: Spain Euro including transport: last update February 2026 This is a wonderful name for a dog who still has to write his own “life story” properly. Since Dickens grew up in the animal shelter, he is essentially a “raw diamond”: he has a flawless character, but the world outside the bars is still a big adventure book with many unread pages. Dickens is a very special dog who, despite a tough start, has not lost his courage. Together with his mother, he was rescued and has since grown up in the animal shelter. This means: Dickens is a model student when it comes to social behavior. He gets along with everyone, is absolutely sovereign in handling fellow animals, and loves human proximity above all else. To be honest: Dickens is a “beginner in the outdoors.” While he is sovereign in the animal shelter, he still doesn’t know what life in an apartment is like. Vacuum cleaners? I know them now, but I’m learning! Cars & street noise? Still a bit eerie, but with your hand by my side, we can do it. House training? I’ll get it quickly if you show me how. Dickens is an extraordinary dog by nature. He’s not a daredevil, but a loyal friend who simply wants to be liked. Through his social and uncomplicated nature, he is also ideal for beginner dog owners who are ready to sit together with him at the school bench. What Dickens is looking for: people with a little patience for his first steps in the “real” world. A home where already a single dog lives (not a must, but he loves company! ). Lots of cuddles and a warm dog bed. He has waited his whole previous life – can he finally arrive somewhere? He eagerly awaits the chance to prove what a great companion lies within him.

About Dickens

What life with Dickens looks like

Dickens is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dickens, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dickens?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dickens on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dickens if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dickens already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dickens isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dickens and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
