Adopt Diesel

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Senior · 10 years

Diesel recently arrived at our shelter following a report of abuse and neglect. Despite his troubled past, Diesel is slowly beginning to settle in with our team. Diesel is an affable dog who particularly enjoys playtime, especially when it involves chasing a ball! Behind his small stature lies a dog who enjoys interacting with humans, provided that his pace and space are respected. However, Diesel does not appreciate manipulation and can become uncomfortable when he feels constrained. He has already bitten twice in this context. Therefore, he will require adopters who can understand his communication signals, respect his limits, and give him the time necessary to adapt to his new living environment. We will prioritize a family without young children, in a quiet and patient home. Regarding walks and daily routine, Diesel will need a reassuring and predictable framework to gradually build trust. A gentle, non-pressurized approach will be essential for him to develop a relationship based on trust and security. At the level of compatibility, Diesel could be okay with other dogs, but these should be tested at the shelter as he can sometimes be possessive. However, he cannot live with cats.

About Diesel

What life with Diesel looks like

Diesel is a senior american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Diesel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Diesel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Diesel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Diesel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Diesel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Diesel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Diesel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
