Adopt Dike

Belgian Malinois · Female · Senior · 9 years

Native Country: Hungary This beauty was named Dike. Kind people found her on January 8, 2026, homeless in Kecskemét, and fortunately, the animal shelter was informed. An animal shelter worker picked up Dike right away. Upon arrival at the shelter, as usual, they checked for a chip, but unfortunately, they didn't find one in Dike. It seems no one misses Dike, as she waited in vain for her people. No one came to take her home. We are crossing our fingers that she will soon get to experience the sunny sides of life and find people who love and cherish her for a lifetime. Just like the German Shepherds, the animals in the shelter are very stressed and restless, including Dike. She is thin enough, and her new living situation is taking its toll on her. She is happy when given some time and attention, which was likely a lack for her until now, and she enjoys cuddles and affection. Unfortunately, there isn't enough time at the shelter for so many dogs. She needs mental and physical stimulation, even though she is older, she is far from being old and is full of energy. But at the beginning, she also needs to learn and solidify the basics of being a dog and sit at her school desk with her people. However, she is a smart female dog, and it will definitely be fun working and training with her, as she wants to please and learn. Similarly, Dike is still playful, and here, one must find the balance between play and enough rest. Dike would definitely be a great companion for jogging, hiking, cycling, or similar activities, adjusted to her age and fitness. How she gets along with her fellow animals will be tested soon. For now, she is alone in a kennel (as of March 9, 2026). For our wonderful Dike, we are looking for dog-experienced and Mali-enthusiastic two-legged beings who understand, value, like, and can lead the nature of these dogs. We are looking for people with an adventurous spirit, with a plan in life, who are aware of the responsibility, work, and time commitment with a mixed-breed dog. Loving people who can give Dike everything she likely hasn't experienced before: love, care, security, safety, clear leadership, and a 100% family connection. She should finally feel that she is valuable and that there are people who care for her and who she means something to. She should finally get to experience daily extended and exciting walks, being adequately exercised, relaxing in peace, and living her life happily, carefree, and protected as a full-fledged family member. Who will Dike be a faithful companion to? Unfortunately, Dike tested positive for skin and heartworms, and treatment began in early February 2026. She has broken and worn-down teeth. Update from March 22, 2026: Dike was supervised with other, confident dogs, and she is alone in the kennel.

About Dike

What life with Dike looks like

Dike is a senior belgian malinois dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dike, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dike?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dike on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dike if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dike already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dike isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dike and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
