Adopt Dioni

Podenco · Male · Adult · 6 years

Shelter Greet: Update November 26, 2025: The animal shelter has reported that Dioni cannot be with cats. Update November 10, 2024: Dioni is one of our independent dogs, with great qualities. He is not afraid, is active, lives in a pack with reuens and tevens, on one of our terraces. He walks well on a leash but does have a hunting instinct. Update May 10, 2024: New video added. Update April 7, 2024: New video added. Input October 25, 2023: Dioni spent several months on the street, his distrust made it impossible for us to get close to him, with the slightest movement he would flee, risking being run over. Dioni did not have a fixed place where he stayed, which made it difficult for us to follow him. Eventually, one morning some volunteers were taking their dogs for a walk, Dioni showed interest in them. The volunteers managed, with a lot of patience, to let Dioni follow them for several kilometers until they reached a dog park, where he could finally be caught. Dioni is pure energy, active, he would be ideal for active people who want to walk with him a lot and for a long time. He walks very well on a leash and would be suitable for a family with children due to his good character. He gets along well with reuens and teefjes. Hopefully, this nice little guy will soon find his own loving family where he can enjoy a real dog life.

About Dioni

What life with Dioni looks like

Dioni is a medium-sized adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dioni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dioni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dioni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dioni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dioni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dioni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dioni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
