Adopt Diva

Labrador Retriever · Female · Young · 1 year

Diva was, to put it bluntly, in the wrong hands during the first months of her life. The owners apparently didn't teach her anything and were then overwhelmed with her after some time – no surprise. Instead of trying or attending dog training classes, they dropped off "their problem" with us. Diva shows a lot of energy when she's with us. She has a lot of power but still doesn't know where to direct it. She pokes at the leash because she hasn't learned anything, not even housebreaking. She also harasses joggers and cyclists, which is another result of a lack of proper upbringing. Okay, she has this deficit, but we're sure that she can be taught many things quickly and easily. Diva is smart and actually a very affectionate dog. People with a lot of time and patience are needed here to teach her everything she's missed out on. For small children, she might be a bit too excitable and stormy. We also suspect that cats or small pets could be a problem. However, we are very confident that Diva will become a model student in the right hands. If you're interested in meeting Diva, please send us a detailed email.

About Diva

What life with Diva looks like

Diva is a young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierheim Bergheim in Bergheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Diva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Diva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bergheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Diva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Diva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bergheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Diva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Diva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bergheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Diva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
