DJ

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

DJ could live with children aged 14+. He would like to be the only cat in the home and will require outdoor access. This handsome chap is absolutely full of character and will undoubtedly bring so much charm to his forever home! DJ first arrived at the shelter at the beginning of the year after having a stressful time in his previous home where he didn’t get along with the other cat in the home. He didn’t like the cattery at first as it was unfamiliar to him and full of other cats. Once he had a bit more space and time to settle in, he calmed down a lot and revealed his lovely friendly personality (and his love of food!). DJ then spent some time in a foster home where he bloomed, and became increasingly loving. Unfortunately, DJ had to return to the cattery once more as he had some medical issues that needed treating here. Now that his problems have cleared up, DJ is finally ready to find his forever home! He loves people and will wait at his gate for staff and volunteers to make sure that he gets a fuss. This has made him a firm favourite here at the shelter. He can usually be found lazing on his cat tree in the sun or rubbing around the legs of whoever is near! DJ will thrive in a home that give him lots of love and space when he needs it. Also plenty of nice dinners wouldn’t go amiss. DJ has required veterinary treatment for some medical issues whist in our care, including ear infections and overgrooming. He is still currently on medication for his skin issues and this is likely to be an ongoing and long-term treatment requirement, as well as needing his ears cleaned once a week. Any potential rehomers should be aware that these will be classed as pre-existing conditions and won’t be covered by pet insurance. The rehoming team will discuss DJ’s veterinary history in further detail with any successful applicants.

About DJ

What life with DJ looks like

DJ is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting DJ, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about DJ?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw DJ on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt DJ if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is DJ already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if DJ isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know DJ and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
