Don Vito

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Don Vito is a gentle giant, approximately 80 centimeters tall and weighing in at 65 kilograms. Found alone on the streets of a village without a microchip, he has since proven himself to be an ideal companion. He behaves impeccably in everyday life, is peaceful, and exudes a deep, calm demeanor. Don Vito's daily routine is uncomplicated: he loves long walks, runs enthusiastically, and enjoys every cuddle from humans. The rest of his time is spent sleeping, eating, and observing his surroundings from the elevated platform of his doghouse. Don Vito has two visual and legal characteristics: due to local legislation, his short tail prevents him from entering Switzerland. He seeks his happiness in a country that welcomes him despite this limitation. His imposing appearance and passion for observation reveal his Herdenschutzhund bloodline. These breeds were bred over centuries to make independent decisions and protect their territory and family vigilantly. Don Vito is not looking for people who expect blind obedience, but rather a confident, loving-consistent leadership that understands his character and guides him in the right direction. For his final empire, he seeks a rural or quiet home. A city apartment is unsuitable for a dog of this size. He needs a house with a securely fenced garden where he can reign supreme and survey the area at will. His future adopters should have experience with Herdenschutzhunde or at least strong, large breeds with character and possess the physical strength to safely lead 65 kilograms of living weight on a leash in any situation. If you can offer Don Vito the right home and a suitable bed, we look forward to hearing from you!

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 20.09.2026

About Don Vito

What life with Don Vito looks like

Don Vito is an extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Don Vito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Don Vito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Don Vito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Don Vito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Don Vito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Don Vito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Don Vito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
