Adopt DONIEK

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 4 years

Born in 2022, DONIEK is a shy dog. It is clear that wearing a harness is foreign to him. Although he still does not feel comfortable in close contact with a stranger. He reacts enthusiastically to familiar volunteers and is becoming braver in his contact with people. We do not know Don's history, and presumably his past was not pleasant. We are teaching him that closeness to humans can be safe, and perhaps over time it will also become pleasant for Don. He also does not know the house or rooms, so it will definitely be necessary to work on this with him. At first, he would certainly feel better if he had a choice of where to spend his time - in the house or outside. DONIEK walks slowly, willingly sniffing and discovering the scents offered by the forest. He is afraid of almost everything - other dogs, getting tangled in the leash, strangers. Working with Don is about dispelling all these fears. We will not stop in this work, in order to give him faith that the surrounding world does not have to scare him. Will there be a place in someone's heart for such a little coward as DONIEK? Is there a dream home waiting somewhere for him? DONIEK is hoping for it, and we are with him.

Rok urodzenia: 2022 Doniek to psi nieśmiałek. Doniek spaceruje niespiesznie, chętnie węsząc i poznając zapachy jakie oferuje mu las. Obawia się prawie wszystkiego – innych psów, zaplątania smyczy, obcych ludzi. Praca z Dońkiem to odczarowywanie tych wszystkich strachów.

About DONIEK

What life with DONIEK looks like

DONIEK is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze in Zielona Góra.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting DONIEK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about DONIEK?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw DONIEK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt DONIEK if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is DONIEK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if DONIEK isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze early rather than rehoming privately; they know DONIEK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
