Adopt Donna

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

Donna - gentle being on four paws → Breed: Staffordshire mixed breed → Gender: female → Born: 2014 → Size / Weight: 45 cm / 20 kg → Neutered: yes → Vaccinated: yes → Identification: Microchip → Compatible with: male dogs and female dogs outside the home → Incompatible with: N/A → Sponsorships possible: yes Description: Donna is an exceptionally loving female dog who likes people, including children. An attribute that many don't expect from her due to the obvious guard dog genes she inherited. However, Donna was not only genetically disadvantaged by fate. Irresponsible, cruel humans used her for dog fights. In this context, Donna's gentleness towards people is almost a miracle. It's no surprise, however, that Donna rejects other four-legged friends in her home. She is looking for a family that will provide her with a "solo favorite" status, offering protection and a home. She has long deserved both after an extended stay in the kennel (since 2016). It's time for Donna to experience the beauty and vastness of the dog world. Surprisingly, Donna behaves normally around other animals when outside, such as during walks. Her future owners don't need to avoid any dog encounters as long as both four-legged friends are leashed. Donna is relatively small and not overly heavy, making her content with limited living and sleeping space. We hope you will fall in love with this gentle four-legged friend, who would be happy to return your affection.

About Donna

What life with Donna looks like

Donna is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Donna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Donna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Donna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Donna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Donna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Donna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Donna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
