Donut

Belgian Malinois · Male · Young · 2 years

Malinois mixed breed Donut – seeks a home for life Donut was found alone on the street. Unfortunately, we know nothing about his past, but many signs suggest that he might have had a home before. Unlike many other street dogs, Donut was noticeably overweight upon arrival. Now, the animal shelter is working to bring him back to a healthier condition so he can start his future fit. Currently, the caregivers are getting to know Donut gradually. Like many dogs, he also needs time to adjust to the new situation and build trust. Therefore, we cannot say much about his character right now. We will of course update his profile as soon as we have more information. Donut is still young and has his whole life ahead of him. Just like dogs that land in an animal shelter, often bring their own unique story. Some have already gathered experiences in a home, others need to learn a lot. Potential adopters should therefore be open to giving Donut the time he needs to settle in and find his place in his new life. Deciding on a dog should never be a spontaneous choice. A dog means responsibility for many years, brings needs, challenges, and changes. At the same time, it offers the chance for a very special bond and a loyal companion by your side. For Donut, we wish people who will meet him with patience, reliability, and understanding and show him that his next home will be forever.

About Donut

What life with Donut looks like

Donut is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Donut, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Donut?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Donut on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Donut if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Donut already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Donut isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Donut and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
