Adopt Doogy

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 12 years

Hello! My name is Doogy, I am a mixed breed caniche, neutered male. I arrived at our shelter due to disagreements with the children from my previous family, and now I am looking for a stable home that listens to me and especially one without children. Unfortunately, I haven't been taught good manners, such as not running around and barking at bikes, cars, people, etc. With the guardians at our shelter, on walks, I don't try to be clever and I know I need to behave well. My future human companion will need to be confident and well-versed with dogs to continue on this path. If you come to visit me, you'll see that I am very vocal and cautious at first, especially with men. Despite these constraints, I can also be affectionate and cuddly when trust is established. I am still very dynamic and full of energy, and I will have a lot of fun accompanying my human wherever they go, especially since I hate being alone. I also get along very well with my canine friends, and I was accustomed to walking with horses. If you have a cat, that can be discussed. As for my health, my heart is a bit tired, I need an annual check-up with a cardiologist to monitor it, but for now, I don't need any treatment. Well, on paper, I might not be the easiest little dog, but I remain a sweet little guy who needs to be well-cared for to give all the love that you are willing to give me. This animal is not suitable for homes with young children.

Bonjour !

About Doogy

What life with Doogy looks like

Doogy is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Oasis des vétérans.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Doogy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Doogy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Oasis des vétérans handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Doogy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Doogy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Oasis des vétérans will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Doogy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Doogy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Oasis des vétérans early rather than rehoming privately; they know Doogy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
