Dora

Yorkshire Terrier · Female · Senior · 11 years

A few weeks ago, this little dog was picked up when she was wandering alone through the city. She was not microchipped, yet various attempts were made to find a possible owner. However, without success. It is likely that the owner of the little one has died, and the heirs have put her on the street. We cannot understand such behavior, but it unfortunately happens very often. At our partners in Stintino, the little one could then be brought to safety, where she now lives with several other dogs. Dora, as she was called, is well cared for. But with the large number of dogs that need to be looked after, there is little time for individual attention. And since Dora is already a senior, we wish for her to spend some more beautiful years with kind people who love her, pamper her, and include her in all family activities. Would you like to give the little Dora her dream home? 22nd April 2026: Dora was able to travel to her foster home in Germany. 11th May 2026: Dora quickly and easily adapted to her foster home. Every day, one can notice a little more how much the calm, care, and security do her good. A warm place, loving speech, regular walks, and people who have time for her – all of this is very precious to Dora. The longer you know her, the more she opens up and shows her gentle and affectionate side. Once she has gained trust, she enjoys affection very much and accompanies her person calmly and without fuss through daily life. Dora is housebroken, travels relaxed in the car, and likes to go for walks. It doesn't have to be wild and action-packed anymore – rather, she loves cozy rounds where she can sniff around and discover the world at her own pace. Exactly that is Dora's world. She gets along with other dogs, but she doesn't necessarily need them for her happiness. Actually, Dora would prefer to be the only princess and would like her humans for herself. She is a modest companion who does not make big demands. Due to her age, she naturally has a few small complaints – but that is simply part of being a senior. For Dora, we wish for people with heart who accept her as she is. People who are not looking for a perfect dog, but a loyal soul that simply deserves a beautiful, loving home. Dora no longer needs a big adventure – just belonging, understanding, patience, and someone who shows her that she can finally stay. A big thank you goes to photographer Petra Müller, who once again supported us voluntarily with beautiful pictures to present Dora in the best light. Where are the people who still want to show our charming senior how beautiful a home can be? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and you are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy, but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. About Dora

What life with Dora looks like

Dora is a large senior yorkshire terrier dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dora, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dora?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dora if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dora isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
