Adopt Dorel-2

Male · Adult · 7 years

Origin Country: Hungary Dorel, the beautiful dog, was found wandering homeless in a neighboring community of Kecskemét on December 31, 2024, and was fortunately reported to Menhely by kind people. He was not microchipped, nor had anyone reported him missing, but he had a collar with a large carabiner, a sign that Dorel likely had to endure a miserable life as a chained dog. Dorel waits "behind bars" for his new two-legged family and a loving "forever home" where he can make up for lost time and be truly loved. Dorel is a friendly, lively, and strong four-legged friend who has adapted well to his new situation, but of course, he would prefer to move into his own home sooner rather than later, as German Shepherds are often very sensitive and usually very stressed in animal shelters. He is happy when given some time and attention, and he enjoys cuddles, having missed out on this for too long. But he also has the potential to learn and strengthen his basic obedience. He is a clever fellow, and it will surely be fun to work with him, practice with him, spend time with him, and encourage and challenge him. Dorel walks well on a leash, but he is certainly still trainable. Dorel can climb. He prefers to find a dog-experienced home as a single prince. For our wonderful Dorel, we are looking for active and sporty German Shepherd enthusiasts, or those who want to become one. Kind people who love, value, and can handle the character traits and nature of these wonderful dogs, and can offer Dorel a varied and exciting life as a family dog, as well as peace, security, and lots of love. Who can be Dorel's faithful friend? February 18, 2025, and an Hungarian animal caregiver writes: Dorel is an active, good-looking dog. He is strong and robust. A very good climber. Update from July 6, 2025: Dorel arrived in the shelter's care in December 2024 with a collar and carabiner. He had the opportunity to go for walks with his mentor. It was the first time he went for a walk with his mentor, and it went very well. Dorel walked well on a leash, such a good and clever dog. Curious, attentive, vigilant, active. He was cooperative and attentive, listening to his mentor's wishes. He enjoyed the cuddles, pampering. Dorel's database shows that he can climb well, so a secure fence in his new home is very important. Additionally, he cannot be kept with other dogs. He wishes to live as the only dog in his new family. July 25, 2025 Update: Dorel has started a socialization training with Dorel-2. Dog encounters are practiced with him. October 19, 2025 Update: Dorel now lives with Herold, and it is going well. Dorel is ready for travel.

About Dorel-2

What life with Dorel-2 looks like

Dorel-2 is a large adult dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dorel-2, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dorel-2?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dorel-2 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dorel-2 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dorel-2 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dorel-2 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dorel-2 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
