Dorie

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 3 months

In the animal shelter since: September 2026 Estimated age: born approx. August 2026 Estimated adult shoulder height: approx. 20 – 59 cm Earliest departure: 08.12. Get to know Dorie right here in the video! Sweet Dorie is looking for a loving family. Dorie was rescued along with her mom Zuzu and her siblings Nemo, Marlin and Cora from a family farm where they no longer wanted them, and was taken in by the shelter. For more information on how the dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions, see our animal welfare FAQ. Our puppy rascals so far show the lively, playful nature typical of puppies. These little clumsy furballs are exploring their world, some a bit shyer, others already confident. Their characters will continue to develop over the coming weeks and months; at this point, only the beginnings can be seen. If you would like more information about this furball, feel free to write to our adoption team. If nothing applies to the furball, please delete the entire container. We suspect that HUNDENAME may have a Livestock Guardian Dog (HSH) in its background. Please read up here on the requirements for adopting a livestock guardian dog. HSH mixes are often very independent and need confident, consistent leadership. HUNDENAME has a cropped ear / two cropped ears / a cropped tail. Many dogs in Romania have these cut off to make the animals look more dangerous. HUNDENAME has a short tail. It is unclear whether its tail is cropped or naturally short. HUNDENAME is currently underweight. On the street or in kill shelters, the animals usually get too little or nothing to eat, so they become severely emaciated. In the shelter, however, our furball is being given more food again and will hopefully soon reach a normal weight. HUNDENAME was sick with parvovirus. Fortunately, the little one survived the virus. Our adoption team knows the exact health status best. If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a message. MANDATORY for medical findings (please delete): Our adoption team knows the exact health status best. If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a message. Puppies should not have to grow up in a shelter. That is why we urgently seek a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little furball — a place where it can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be. As soon as house-training is achieved, the "wild adolescence" often begins — full of energy, uncertainty, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that humans and dogs take together, with highs, lows, and plenty of learning moments. For this furball we wish for people with patience, empathy, and perseverance — and with an understanding that shelter dogs often already carry some history with them. How exactly they will react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: those who adopt rather than buy not only give an animal a second chance, but actively choose against animal suffering — and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the . All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, deflead, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to send our adoption team a message.

About Dorie

What life with Dorie looks like

Dorie is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dorie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dorie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dorie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dorie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Dorie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dorie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dorie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
