Doris

Pug · Female · Adult · 7 years

Doris, a loving Mops lady, had to leave her home with heavy heart after 7 years, as the newborn suffers from severe allergies. The very loving female dog has quickly and easily adapted to her foster home. There, she lives peacefully with a cat, as well as three other dogs (both sexes, varying in size). Doris is open to all people, whether man or woman, young or old. She actively seeks contact and has no objection to cuddles. On the leash, Doris runs like a pro, no pulling, no tugging. She pays great attention to her person, makes eye contact, and also walks nicely behind them without a leash. Even front-line dog encounters with barking dogs are no problem for Doris. At her foster home, the female dog uses the litter box since it is now accessible without a lid. If no litter box is available, Doris is of course house-trained. Whether with or without a dog companion, Doris can stay alone for several hours without decorating the apartment. In everyday life, she shows herself to be a pleasant, quiet roommate who enjoys going for walks, traveling well in the car, and also independently getting in and out. We can present Doris as a second dog or as a single dog - with sufficient social contact to fellow animals, also for beginners, and even to a family with understanding children. Due to extreme breeding goals, the Mops breed is considered one of the breeds subjected to extreme breeding, also Doris has the typical brachycephalic (short) head, including a flat nose, facial wrinkles, etc. Along with this, there may be the following problems: breathing difficulties, increased risk of heat stroke, dental problems, as well as increased stress levels due to chronic oxygen deficiency. We are looking for owners who are aware of the health risks and financial burden. We recommend pet insurance that also covers typical breed treatments and operations. This information only represents a small part and not the full scope of the problems associated with extreme breeding characteristics.

About Doris

What life with Doris looks like

Doris is a small adult pug dog waiting at Tierheim Mayen in Mayen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Doris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Doris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Mayen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Doris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Doris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Mayen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Doris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Doris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Mayen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Doris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
