Adopt Doris

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Carpen shelter kennel is located in the middle of fields on the edge of a small village. Typically, in a Romanian village, there are many dogs that roam freely and despite sterilization campaigns, homeless animals puppies continue to be born constantly. The villagers have become familiar with the caretaker of the shelter, Carmen, and often ask her for help with the animals they find. Thus, the siblings Doris, Marie and Oreo have ended up at the shelter kennel. One of Carmen's acquaintances found the puppies by the side of a main road near the village and immediately realized that the small puppies would not survive long in such a place. Therefore, she took the puppies with her and brought them to safety to Carpen shelter kennel. Doris is really a friendly personality. Although he has grown up at the shelter kennel, he has retained his affectionate and curious nature. Therefore, he is also happy to greet strangers, even though meeting new people clearly slightly worries him. He stays close to people throughout the visit and also comes cautiously to be petted by strangers. He clearly misses human attention and closeness very much and is very happy when he can be near. Doris seems to be a very gentle and calm personality at the shelter kennel. He gets along nicely with all his cage mates.

Doris on todella sympaattinen persoona.

About Doris

What life with Doris looks like

Doris is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Doris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Doris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Doris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Doris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Doris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Doris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Doris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
