Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie)

German Shepherd · Female · Adult · 7 years

Basque Shepherd Mix Bernie—Looking for a Forever Home! Bernie is a cheerful, energetic, and highly expressive dog who is searching for her very own loving home. She loves physical activity, long walks, and adventures in nature. Like all of her siblings, she’s a big fan of water and eagerly accompanies her people to rivers and lakes. But after an active day, she just as happily enjoys being close to her family and relaxing on the sofa. With her long coat, Bernie is perfectly equipped for cold winter months. In summer, though, she loves a fresh haircut—revealing the slender, athletic dog that’s hidden beneath her beautiful fur. Bernie has never shown any aggression toward people and is friendly and open-minded. She’s also never displayed aggressive behavior toward other animals she’s encountered. However, she hasn’t lived with cats before, so we can’t make a definitive statement about that. Bernie has spent her entire life with her two brothers, though she’s also been separated from them at times—and she adapted to those separations without any trouble. Bernie was rescued, along with her eight siblings and their mother, by a veterinarian from a small village when they were just a few days old. Their mother had been living there for years under poor conditions. The entire canine family was then brought to safety in time. Since then, Bernie has been waiting for the family that will finally welcome her into their hearts. Bernie is a wonderful dog full of joy and love. All she needs now is her own forever home. Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be quite challenging. These dogs come with a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to adjust to their new lives.

About Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie)

What life with Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie) looks like

Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie) is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Bernie) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
