Draco

Pit Bull Terrier · Male

The Draco is a young dog with a loving, friendly and fun character. He was abandoned at the beginning of the year and in the initial assessment he tested positive for leishmaniasis, a chronic disease that we are convinced is why he was abandoned. It is one more cruelty among those we regularly witness. Despite the illness, the Draco is as strong as an oak and shows no symptoms. He weighs 20 kg and is crossed with the American Staffordshire Terrier breed. At the center, we know from experience that suffering from a chronic illness and being of a dangerous breed form a combination that makes the adoption of our dogs very difficult. That is why we need your help. We don't want the Draco to waste his life away from a home. He has leishmaniasis, a chronic illness that, when treated properly, does not prevent him from living a fully normal life. At the animal shelter we will inform you about everything related to his pathology. To compensate for the costs of treatment and monitoring of the disease, his adoption is completely free and does not involve any cost for the adopter. For the adoption, the interested person must first obtain the license for the ownership and transportation of potentially dangerous dogs in the municipality where they are registered. At the animal shelter we will inform you about the steps that need to be followed.

CA·Show original

About Draco

What life with Draco looks like

Draco is a adult pit bull terrier dog waiting at El Refugi dels Peluts (Lleida) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Draco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Draco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. El Refugi dels Peluts (Lleida) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Draco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Draco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — El Refugi dels Peluts (Lleida) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Draco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Draco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with El Refugi dels Peluts (Lleida) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Draco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CA). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
