DRAGO

Mixed Breed · Male · 2 years

A dog handed over to the animal shelter by the owner because he could not handle him. DRAGO was raised on a leash and therefore is poorly socialized with people. At first, he was distant with us, observing his new surroundings. Now, when seeing a familiar person, he is happy, greets through the bars, licks hands and offers himself to be petted. However, caution is needed, as DRAGO can react nervously upon touch and tries to bite. He is afraid of strangers. It can be seen that he is not just a dog who simply did not know people, but a dog that someone taught to be afraid. A raised hand, a sudden movement - all can trigger a strong reaction from him. The previous owner noted that the dog did not allow taking away toys or food. All this information may seem overwhelming, but DRAGO will definitely require some work and getting to know him under the supervision of our behaviorist (free of charge) before being taken from the animal shelter. However, he is a young dog, he has been with us for a short time, and we believe that it will be possible to show him that people can be trusted. Such dogs can surprise with the amount of canine love and attachment. DRAGO will certainly realize that daily life with people can be great - and we hope he will not wait long for the right family.

About DRAGO

What life with DRAGO looks like

DRAGO is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires behavioral rehabilitation, resource guarding issues, fear-based aggression, needs professional training support

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting DRAGO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about DRAGO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw DRAGO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt DRAGO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is DRAGO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if DRAGO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know DRAGO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
