Drako

Doberman · Male · Young · 1 year

Drako is a large, short-haired Doberman-type dog. He is just over a year old and has not yet fully grown up. He is a bit clumsy and scattered on his long legs, still learning about the world and its rules, but he has great potential. Drako is friendly, outgoing, and very expressive towards humans. He knows basic commands - he can sit and give his paw. He is also extremely food-motivated, so learning with food goes exceptionally well. Drako has a lot of energy and a huge need for exercise. He loves walks and the opportunity to run around, but his enthusiasm needs to be curbed - as a young dog with long legs, he cannot take care of a reasonable pace on his own. He needs a caregiver who will help him learn to rest and not let his youthful foolishness end in injury. On a leash, he also requires work - especially at the beginning of the walk, he can pull hard, but after a while, the excitement subsides and he is much calmer. Relations with other dogs are an area that Drako needs to work on. When he sees other dogs, he gets very excited and barks, but it does not look like a behavior resulting from aggression. In the right conditions, he can let go and switch to calmer communication. With proper guidance and contact with stable, calm dogs, he has a chance to learn proper communication. That's why we are looking for a conscious caregiver who wants to work with him and watch as this big kid grows up. Drako needs consistency, wise guidance, learning to walk calmly on a leash, and safe introduction to the world of dog relationships. Drako is a young, energetic, a bit disorganized, but beloved dog who needs a person ready to show him what a good life looks like.

PL·Show original

Drako to duży, krótkowłosy przystojniak w typie dobermana. Zna podstawowe komendy – potrafi usiąść i podać łapę. W odpowiednich warunkach potrafi odpuścić i przejść do spokojniejszej komunikacji.

About Drako

What life with Drako looks like

Drako is a large young adult doberman dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Drako, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Drako?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Drako on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Drako if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Drako already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Drako isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Drako and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
