Duna

Belgian Malinois · Female · Adult · 5 years

Duna - sweet Malinois mix dog is looking for a home Duna currently lives in our Spanish partner animal shelter. Together with Dash and Dado, she had to leave her previous home and now finds herself in a completely new world: animal shelter life, kennel life and lots of unfamiliar impressions. In the shelter, Duna shows herself as an exceptionally friendly, people-oriented and affectionate dog. She enjoys the attention of the caregivers very much and encounters people openly and lovingly. She shares her kennel with Dado without any problems. Even though we have not yet gotten to know Duna better, we really hope that she will not stay in the shelter for long. Especially for dogs who knew a home, everyday life behind bars is often particularly difficult. As a Malinois mix, Duna probably brings many typical characteristics of this special breed: intelligence, eagerness to learn, sensitivity and the desire to work closely with her people. Therefore, Malinois and their mixes are not beginner dogs. They need clear, fair leadership, sufficient physical and mental exercise as well as people who enjoy working with their dog and keeping them busy in a meaningful way. How much Duna already knows and has learned, we currently cannot say. Moving to a new home means a big change for every dog and needs time, patience and understanding. Dogs from animal shelters often need time to arrive in their new lives and learn the routines of family life. For Duna, we wish an active, responsible home that gives her security and the chance to finally settle down again. With the right people by her side, she will surely be a wonderful companion for life. If you are aware of what comes with adopting a shelter dog and have fallen in love with her, please contact the responsible SALVA Hundehilfe mediator. We would also be very grateful if you could provide a foster home! Here is Duna's video

About Duna

What life with Duna looks like

Duna is a large adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Duna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Duna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Duna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Duna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Duna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Duna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Duna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
