Adopt Dushi

Male · Young · 1 year

Meet Dushi! Dushi is an enthusiastic Herder x Teckel mix of 1.5 years old who is a bit reserved but full of energy. He is an active and energetic dog who likes to be busy and loves going out. He visibly enjoys long walks and playing with a ball. Sufficient exercise and training are therefore important for this young dog. Dushi is initially shy around new people and can come across as a bit intimidating, but underneath the barking is a small and kind character that quickly comes out with time. If you approach him calmly, with some treats, he is soon your friend and would love to cuddle and sit on your lap. Dushi is very enthusiastic with known people and jumps happily at you and wants lots of attention. Due to his reserved, but also somewhat lively personality, we think he is better suited for a home without children and other pets. Dushi is watchful in the house and barks when the doorbell rings or when people or dogs pass by. Furthermore, he sleeps quietly in a basket in the house and is well housebroken. Dushi also knows some basic commands such as sit, down, stay, and shake. Outside, he walks nicely on the leash without pulling. He sniffs a lot and does not look back at passing traffic. However, he reacts strongly during a walk to other dogs and (male) runners. That is therefore a point to note for this dog. Because of this, we do not place him with other dogs. In short, Dushi is a young, energetic dog who needs some time to get used to new people, but with time and trust becomes a loving and affectionate companion. What we are looking for in a home for Dushi is a calm household without children and other pets. He needs an owner who challenges him both physically and mentally and gives him the time to slowly get used to his new environment. A garden is a must for Dushi to burn off his energy. Are you just as enthusiastic about being active as Dushi? Then contact us, Dushi can't wait to train together!

About Dushi

What life with Dushi looks like

Dushi is a small young adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dushi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dushi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dushi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dushi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dushi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dushi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dushi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
