MEET Skip, a sensitive boy with a golden edge πŸ’› Skip is a 6-year-old tomcat who was surrendered by his previous owner with a heavy heart. He is an uncertain and stress-sensitive boy, and we still see that here. The new environment, strange people and other cats sometimes overwhelm him, causing him to occasionally retreat. But... we also see a very beautiful development. πŸ’› Skip is gradually gaining trust and is now coming up to you for a pet. And once he knows you? He can even lie on your lap and really enjoy the contact. That soft, loving character is definitely there – it just needs some time to come out. As a small kitten, he came to his previous owners and had a good life there. Due to changing circumstances at home, however, Skip became stressed and insecure. Eventually, the situation became too difficult and he ended up with us. For Skip we are looking for a quiet and stable home. He is an only cat and tends to bond with one or two people. Children or other pets are too stressful for him. What he needs is someone with experience, patience and insight into cat behavior, who gives him the time to settle at his own pace. A garden is important for Skip. Being outside helps him to release his energy and clear his mind. In addition, he enjoys playing, which also helps to boost his confidence. The better you get to know Skip, the clearer he becomes in his communication. And the more trust is built, the more of his soft, affectionate side you will see. We already see that he is taking these steps, and it promises a lot of good things for the future. Skip receives special diet food to help prevent bladder problems. Fortunately, he finds this very tasty! Are you someone who does not shy away from a cat with a backpack, but is instead happy to build a bond? Then Skip might just be the cat that's right for you.

About Skip

What life with Skip looks like

Skip is a small adult cat waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction β€” every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Skip, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Skip?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Skip on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Skip if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Skip already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Skip isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Skip and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
