Dżeki

Male · Adult · 6 years

Dżeki is a German Shepherd dog who, despite still being young, has experienced a lot of suffering in his life. In his previous home, there was no space or love for him, so he ended up in our animal shelter. He was labeled as an aggressive dog, but after a short time in our group, he proved that this assumption was wrong. What is really Dżeki? He is a neglected and misunderstood dog, hurt by people. We are trying step by step to show him that people can be good, patient, and loving. Dżeki is learning to control his emotions and is becoming better at interacting with people. During walks, he can distance himself from the shelter's noise, calm down, and focus on exploring his surroundings. He willingly obeys commands, and when he sees his volunteers behind the crate bars, he shows joy. He is a dog very eager for human contact, but in strong emotions, he can get excited and it is hard for him to calm down - he is still learning how to deal with their excess. However, he is increasingly seeking closeness and is becoming accustomed to the presence of people. In relation to other dogs, he does not show aggressive behavior - during walks, he is rather curious about them. However, due to his past and difficulties in regulating emotions, we are looking for a home without other animals and children, where the caregiver will be able to fully focus on his needs. Dżeki suffers from advanced hip dysplasia. In the animal shelter, he is under constant care and treatment, but the future caregiver must be prepared for the need for further veterinary care and possible rehabilitation. We are looking for an experienced person who uses positive training methods and understands working with a demanding dog. Dżeki is not a dog for a beginner. Due to health problems, a home without stairs or with access to an elevator will be preferred. We beg for a chance for Dzeki. He is a dog with great potential, and with the right caregiver, he has a chance to use it and flourish. Dżeki needs a wise guide and someone who will show him that a person can be trustworthy. Let's not allow him to spend the rest of his life in the animal shelter.

PL·Show original

Kamila 604975018 Daniel 509088498

About Dżeki

What life with Dżeki looks like

Dżeki is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Hip dysplasia requiring ongoing treatment and monitoring, digestive sensitivity requiring special diet, needs home with garden and soft terrain for walking

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dżeki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dżeki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dżeki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dżeki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dżeki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dżeki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dżeki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
