DŻEKI

Mixed Breed · Male · 3 years

DŻEKI didn't have an easy start. Lack of stability and a sense of security made him have to cope on his own, which cost him some trust in people. As a result, he was labeled as a "dominant and aggressive" dog, which effectively discourages potential caregivers. However, DŻEKI doesn't want to control or attack anyone - he dreams of a calm life by the side of a person who will be his support and guide. He needs understanding and a world without constant tension. He is open to relationships, but like most dogs, he needs a moment to trust. He's not a cuddler - physical contact must happen on his terms. He doesn't like pressure or coercion, but he readily engages in cooperation. He loves play, shared activities, long walks, and discovering new places. It's worth remembering that he guards his "treasures," so his boundaries must be respected. With other dogs, he is rather positively oriented, although lack of socialization may require work. Properly conducted meetings and shared walks can help him a lot. DŻEKI has great potential, but he needs an experienced, patient caregiver who will dedicate time to him - at least several hours a day for shared activities and building a relationship. In his case, trust is the key to everything.

Potrzebuje zrozumienia i świata bez ciągłego napięcia. Kontakt do wolontariusza: 605 437 786 (Arek)

About DŻEKI

What life with DŻEKI looks like

DŻEKI is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding behavior, requires patient socialization work

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting DŻEKI, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about DŻEKI?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw DŻEKI on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt DŻEKI if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is DŻEKI already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if DŻEKI isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know DŻEKI and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
