Adopt Ebony

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Beautiful Ebony has just turned 8 years of age. She is a healthy, gentle, affectionate girl who sadly is struggling after losing her mother, who she’s lived with her entire life a few months ago. She gets very anxious when left alone now and barks, whines and chews things. Her owner works full time and takes her to work where she stays in his van but she’s getting very stressed with this too. Her owners had to take her out for a meal recently where she had to stay in the car and they kept checking on her because she would have been even more stressed if left at home. Out on walks Ebony walks beautifully on lead and has a great recall to her owner calling her name. She also loves to play fetch and will play for ages. She can be unpredictable when meeting some dogs, possibly because she’s always had her mum around to do the introductions so feels threatened by some dogs so can growl and get snappy. She does visit a dog several nights a week and is very happy having the terrier around, even at bedtime with the terrier sleeping on the owners bed Ebony is happy to sleep in the bedroom on her own bed, they are great friends and the terrier who recently had puppies trusted Ebony to mother them and help take care of them, Ebony was a wonderful helper with them being very sweet and gentle with them. She’s is also an excellent traveller and is very happy with her people in the car. She hasn’t been around small children but with the teenagers she sees regularly she’s lovely and will very happily snooze of an evening with her head on their laps on the sofa. She does love affection and sofa cuddles and her owner says that she would cuddle on the sofa all day given the chance. Ebony doesn’t like cats and would chase, she hasn’t met livestock so her reactions are unknown. She’s fed kibble once a day and her owner says that she isn’t fussy and will eat anything. If you have the time to spend with this lovely girl and a sofa big enough for cuddles please contact us Ebony is currently in Builth Wells and will be rehomed with her 5 weeks free Agria insurance and her Adoption contract. About Ebony

What life with Ebony looks like

Ebony is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ebony, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ebony?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ebony on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ebony if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ebony already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ebony isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ebony and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
