Edgar &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male

Edgar originally came from Eastern Europe and ended up in Germany with a breeder whose dogs were eventually all seized. Edgar is now in the hands of an animal shelter and can be officially rehomed. The young male dog is initially insecure, which is noticeable when taken out for a walk quite quickly. In a safe environment, he doesn’t take any nonsense when the opposite party lets him be. Edgar still has to learn almost everything (environmental stimuli, social contacts) and is basically a blank slate. However, he understands quickly and enjoys it, as do all dogs of his age, when you fully dedicate yourself to him. Molosser-experienced people should therefore have a lot of fun showing him the world and teaching him everything he needs to know! After one or two days in the new home, Edgar is a classic giant baby: a great snuggling and raiding sow, age-appropriate active and playful, very clingy and effusive. And all of this, of course, with full body involvement! The young gray is compatible with female dogs and has so far lived together with several small dogs. Nevertheless, if there is already a dog in the family, he should be rehomed to a similar weight class and be the only male dog in the household. He would certainly benefit from an older, confident, and well-trained female dog friend. Children should be already somewhat bigger, steady, and experienced in handling dogs. Whoever has the desire and joy to learn the basics of dog manners with Edgar and can stand his weight with corresponding leadership qualities will be regularly knuckled under by Edgar. One would almost always have the washing machine with them when walking around with Edgar….

DE·Show original

About Edgar &#8211

What life with Edgar &#8211 looks like

Edgar &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Edgar &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Edgar &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Edgar &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Edgar &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Edgar &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Edgar &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Edgar &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
