Edu

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

🐾 Edu – an older gentleman with a past seeking a quiet fresh start Edu is actually quite a sad case. He’s been with us at the animal shelter for some time and was briefly rehomed in between. Unfortunately, he ended up with elderly people who couldn’t give him the necessary guidance—he was essentially left to his own devices. We suspect that in his earlier life, he spent periods chained up. Even today, he still shows signs of that constant back-and-forth pacing unless deliberately interrupted. Initially, he was very reactive—barking at many things and appearing constantly nervous. 💚 His progress with us Through consistent, clear work, Edu has made truly positive progress here: • He now walks nicely on-leash. • He reliably looks to humans for guidance. • He can enjoy cuddles. • Overall, he’s become noticeably calmer. He’s an older fellow who occasionally gets briefly excited but mostly sleeps a lot and is generally a quiet dog. With advancing age, he’s becoming visibly gentler. ⚖️ What you need to know Edu has his quirks. He guards food and treats and reacts impulsively—for example, if accidentally stepped on. He’s familiar with the muzzle, and especially at first, it should be used for safety reasons. Important: He is not a dog with pronounced aggressive tendencies. He sometimes overreacts in impulsive moments—but he’s capable of learning and responsive to guidance. 🏡 Who is Edu right for? • 1–2 calm, experienced people • No children • A quiet environment • Clear, stable leadership • People willing to deeply engage with canine behavior and needs He does well as a solo dog and can be left alone for several hours. Walks in peaceful surroundings benefit him greatly. Of course, he can also continue to receive mental stimulation—he’s shown he’s able to learn. Edu has soft, long fur that we clip once or twice a year. — Despite his past, Edu has made genuinely wonderful progress with us. He doesn’t need pity—he needs people with heart, clarity, and responsibility. We firmly believe that with the right people, he deserves another chance to settle in and enjoy his golden years in peace and security. 💚 FACTSHEET Age: 20.02.2018 At animal shelter since: 03.02.24 Breed: Water dog Pastor Vasko mixed breed Sex: male Origin: PT Compatibility with cats: must be tested With children? Spaziergänge in ruhiger Umgebung tun ihm gut.

About Edu

What life with Edu looks like

Edu is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Edu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Edu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Edu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Edu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Edu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Edu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Edu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
