Adopt Egon

Male · Adult · 4 years

Egon is one of two dogs that on a gloomy, autumn morning, Paluch staff found abandoned in a small cage in front of the animal shelter. Thus he came to us along with his twin brother, Benny. Egon is about two years old, a cute dog in the "knee-high" size with alert brown eyes. His full of energy and enthusiasm character is initially covered by a rather thick layer of distrust and fear, so he needs a patient caregiver who will help him overcome his fear and learn new dog skills at his own pace. However, already after a few walks together it's clear that he enjoys both contact with people and exploring new spaces. Initial reluctance to fasten the leash turns into offering the collar for petting, and the nervous head turn and hesitation at the sound of a bus become an indifferent look "I already know that, it doesn't threaten me, we can go on". It's a great satisfaction to show him the city with all its variety of stimuli knowing that he feels support from the person and doesn't have to hide his curiosity along with himself in a small hut. In contact with other dogs, Egon, despite limited experience, handles well, it's not a problem for him to pass them on walks. Although fully mastering dog culture is still ahead of him, he deserves high praise for his ability to avoid contact with another dog on the route and follow the person. When facing strangers, he is cautious, prefers to calmly sense their intentions and check three times that nothing threatens him, but there is no aggression in him, only shyness and inexperience. He is the ideal companion for a long-term, very friendly dog-human relationship. He just needs warmth and empathy, and he will love you with great love - maybe just you!

About Egon

What life with Egon looks like

Egon is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs patient owner to overcome fear and build confidence

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Egon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Egon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Egon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Egon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Egon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Egon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Egon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
