Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid

Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid: Chito von der Welpenmafia Prelude: The little Malteser Chito never really had a chance: Hungarian puppy traffickers sold him to Germany, but his life in his new home ended in a catastrophe shortly thereafter. No one knows what the scruffy little Chito experienced in his first weeks. His life in Germany began on a parking lot. For there, the little Malteser was handed over to his new owner last year, who had previously ordered him online. The buyer lives near Lauf. Online, breed puppies like the little Chito were offered cheaply by a breeder from Hungary. While this is a lucrative business model for the puppy mafia, it often means a life of suffering for the animals. For foreign dealers, the health of the little dogs usually doesn't matter as long as the business with the breed puppies is booming. But how cruelly this can end for the animals is shown by Chito's story. For after the handover on the parking lot, Chito moved in with his new owner. But in the too small apartment, the puppy often and for long periods had to be alone. Walking around was barely possible. The situation worsened: Soon, not only was Chito completely overwhelmed, but also his owner. Chito would attack and bite her again and again. In January 2024, she therefore contacted the Tierhilfe Franken. The young Malteser moved to a foster family of the association and received there, in addition to love and affection, mainly structure. But it quickly became clear that something was wrong with Chito. The dog would often simply fall over, and his tongue would fall out of his mouth uncontrollably. He was often completely out of it and aggressive. Even in his sleep, he would regularly wake up and bite uncontrollably. Together with the foster parent, the Tierhilfe Franken did everything to find out what was wrong with Chito: The little one was examined by dog trainers and veterinarians, and even a behavior therapist was brought in. An orthopedist examined Chito, his blood was tested, and ultrasound examinations of the abdomen and liver followed. An odyssey for the little dog. But Chito only had a chance at a normal life when the cause of his behavior became clear. The organization invested several thousand euros. Additionally, a lot of time and effort by all involved – without results. The last hope rested on the MRI, where Chito's organs and tissue were to be examined. But during the sedation, the little dog simply stopped breathing. Even at this point, the images showed what had caused Chito's suffering: "His brain is a single white mass," said the neurologist to Carmen Baur (1st president of the Tierhilfe Franken). The little dog's brain was so underdeveloped and damaged that he would never have a normal dog life. With heavy hearts, the Tierhilfe Franken decided to relieve the little dog. "We are infinitely sad," said Carmen Baur. "Dogs like our Chito are never viable, and no amount of money or treatment in the world could have helped him." For puppies like Chito are usually bred under inhumane conditions. In a business where profit is the only concern, the health of the dogs and puppies does not matter. And by continuing to order dogs like this, more and more puppies and, consequently, more and more dog suffering are "produced." As long as unscrupulous dealers and the puppy mafia can make money off the animals, dogs like Chito will continue to suffer needlessly. This animal has a history of biting.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ein kurzes Leben voller Leid and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
