Einstein

Husky · Male · Senior · 16 years

Einstein is looking for a loving home—a German Shepherd-Husky mix (born in 2010). Einstein is a German Shepherd-Husky mix, born in 2010, and is currently waiting at the Ludwigshafen animal shelter for people who would like to give this lovable senior dog a happy final chapter in life. Einstein’s story began under sad circumstances here with us. He was seized due to improper animal care and arrived at the shelter severely emaciated and in poor general health. Despite everything he has been through, he has retained his friendly and open nature. He greets people with affection, enjoys every bit of attention, and simply longs to belong. A senior dog with a big heart! We’re looking for people who consciously want to give an older dog from animal welfare a second chance. Einstein no longer needs long hikes or strenuous physical activities—rather, he longs for a calm home filled with closeness, love, and security. Short walks lasting five to ten minutes are perfectly sufficient for him. Einstein is especially happy when he can just be with his people—whether in the garden, on the patio, or comfortably inside the house. Health and Special Needs: Due to his age, Einstein has several health-related peculiarities. He suffers from glaucoma and currently receives eye drops three times daily. If treatment ever becomes insufficient, the affected eye will need to be removed. Additionally, Einstein is incontinent and no longer house-trained. His future owners should therefore be understanding and prepared to provide him with the necessary support. Because of his age, Einstein can no longer manage stairs. He can easily handle a single step, but navigating multiple steps or an entire staircase is beyond his capabilities. Therefore, we’d like him to have a ground-floor home or one with direct access to the garden. Apart from these age-related issues...

About Einstein

What life with Einstein looks like

Einstein is a large senior husky dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Einstein, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Einstein?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Einstein on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Einstein if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Einstein already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Einstein isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Einstein and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
