EKH Benita &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

My name is Benita. I am female, neutered, and was born in late summer 2020. I have been waiting since March 2021 for a new home. My caretakers say about me: Benita was raised in a garden with siblings by a grandmother. Now, the stock is being minimized to prevent everything from getting out of hand, and one or two cats will return to their feeding station. Although Benita is still very shy, she is not really wild. We suspect she requires a lot of patience, as while she does not yet seek close cuddles, she is good with handling. Here, people are sought who will give her the necessary time to build trust. Gently, also with understanding and unobtrusive children. Benita could move out as a second cat when she warms up; when she is old enough, she will surely enjoy spending time with playmates. She could be suitable for apartment living, but a later outdoor release is also possible after acclimatization. Until your family comes to meet her, we will try to show Benita how a stroking hand can be pleasant. If you have a knack for shy girls, you can arrange a date with Benita here. This cat needs outdoor access. Some symptoms here are age-related.

About EKH Benita &#8211

What life with EKH Benita &#8211 looks like

EKH Benita &#8211 is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting EKH Benita &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about EKH Benita &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw EKH Benita &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt EKH Benita &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is EKH Benita &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if EKH Benita &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know EKH Benita &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
