EKH Candy

Mixed Breed · Male

Candy is a stray who, for sure, once had a home. Brought to us, he had become noticeably lame over the past few weeks, as an observer in the neighborhood noticed. Whether he was previously cared for, we do not know. He was in a truly sad general condition, and his front leg, which really shows an old, unhealable fracture, was not his actual problem. Surely, arthritis that formed there took its toll. He was emaciated and truly a sad sight, hunger and care for the front leg were his constant companions. Unneutered as well, so he had no pleasant life on the streets. First, he needed to gain some weight, and over December, he managed to put on a bit. After that, a long stay in our clinic was in order. While he was spared the classic stray diseases like FIP and FIV, a blood test revealed diabetes. His treatment adjustment is like his life: a regular rollercoaster: for unexplained reasons, his blood sugar level is not really controlled, so Candy has to endure a blood sugar measurement in the morning and at night, but it really works well. For the old fracture, only joint supplements are currently added to his food, which is sufficient at the moment. He is a great spirit and a real fighter, always and constantly hungry, not just for food, but also for cuddles. Occasionally, he hisses, but that is more due to his excitement, even when he is annoyed, he tends to back off. He gets along well with fellow animals. We urgently need sponsors to possibly provide a foster home or a owner who will finally give him back what he once had, his place in life. Or even an adopter who doesn't mind his sugar condition. Who would like to give Candyman a home where he feels like the king on the sugar cane and where insulin levels and nutrition are under control, without the sweet old tomcat catching on…?

About EKH Candy

What life with EKH Candy looks like

EKH Candy is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting EKH Candy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about EKH Candy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw EKH Candy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt EKH Candy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is EKH Candy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if EKH Candy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know EKH Candy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
