GIO, BRENDA, and TRISTÁN were found abandoned in the cruelest and most despicable manner. They were tied up and immobilized to a fence along the roadside, exposed to the full summer sun, without water and without food. The intent was clear: to inflict upon them the most agonizing and cruel of deaths. All three faced a sad end—had it not been for a passerby who refused to look the other way. That person stopped immediately and, without hesitation, alerted us. Now they are safe and sound at our shelter. GIO, BRENDA, and TRISTÁN were found abandoned in the cruelest and most despicable manner, as you can see in the photos below. They were tied up and immobilized to a fence along the roadside, exposed to the full summer sun (40ºC), without water and without food. The intent was clear: to inflict upon them the most agonizing and cruel of deaths. All three faced a sad end—had it not been for a passerby who refused to look the other way. That person stopped immediately and, without hesitation, alerted us. Now they are safe and sound at our shelter. We feel sadness—but also great anger. This case will be reported to the authorities. Our blood boils because this is not negligence; this is cruelty. Despite the past they must have endured at such a young age, both GIO, BRENDA, and TRISTÁN are pure love through and through. At first, when they arrived, they were somewhat shy—they didn’t know us, nor did they know the place. Yet just a few days after their arrival, they’ve already begun to reveal their true personalities: affectionate, playful, and eager to approach our volunteers. It seems they’ve finally understood that nothing bad will ever happen to them again... GIO comes with a microchip, up-to-date passport, vaccinations, and tests for Erlichia, Anaplasma, Filariasis, and Leishmania. In addition, he has been spayed/neutered.

About El

What life with El looks like

El is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at El Refugio Escuela Marlene in Seville.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting El, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about El?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. El Refugio Escuela Marlene handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw El on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt El if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — El Refugio Escuela Marlene will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is El already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if El isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with El Refugio Escuela Marlene early rather than rehoming privately; they know El and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
