adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Ela has found a home! Her story: Wirbelwind Ela wishes for an active, independent home! The young female dog lives currently indoors with a Romanian foster home, in whose immediate neighborhood she was found. She looked well-groomed. Either she was abandoned or had simply wandered off. No owners could be identified. In the foster home, Ela lives with several dogs and cats and gets along well with all of them. If there are cats in her new family, it should be known that she likes to play a bit rough. But she learns quickly and has already had the experience with the oldest cat that cats know how to defend themselves. Since then, they also like to cuddle together. Ela loves her people. She likes to cuddle and seeks their proximity. With strangers, she is initially a bit afraid, but she also barks sometimes. This usually settles down relatively quickly once she gets to know the person better. The young female dog also runs well on a leash, but is still easily distracted due to her age. Ela is looking for emphatic, active people who will give her some time to settle in and build trust. After the adjustment period, a visit to a positively working dog training class would be exactly what she needs to learn the ABCs of dog behavior. To channel her energy in the right direction afterward, physical and mental stimulation are important. This could be, for example, mantrailing or agility. Currently, Ela is entering puberty. When the hormones start playing and the synapses in the brain are reconnected, strong nerves and enough humor are needed to get through this phase with the dog. Throughout this, the dog should be accompanied with a positively reinforcing training style. Ela is of medium size, measuring 54 cm in height. She weighs around 20 kg. Ela has her luggage packed and can set off on her big journey at any time. She travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated, and has already packed her EU pet passport. Even a stay in a foster home would be great. Have you been interested? Then feel free to contact us. We will get back to you soon. Thank you, Gaby R., you have given Ela her new start in life with your namesake. As of: 15.12. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

Stand: 15.12.2024

About Ela

What life with Ela looks like

Ela is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ela, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ela?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ela on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ela if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ela already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ela isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ela and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
