ELFA

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

I'm going to be honest: I've been pretty busy lately. Raising puppies is a full-time job, after all. All my little ones have found great homes. So mission accomplished, and now it's finally my turn. I have to confess: when I meet someone for the first time, I'm a bit shy. Just sniffing around, seeing if you're trustworthy, understandable, right? But once I know you're okay? I come sit next to you, let my head on your lap, and I don't leave anymore. I currently live in our shelter in Spain, weigh 17 kg, and I'm estimated to be 2 years old (born in 2024). I love walks, I love other dogs, and my foster family says I've really blossomed there. About cats? Well, I haven't met them officially yet. A cat test can be done. What I'm looking for? A quiet spot where I can be myself. No rush. Just you, me, and a comfy couch. Give me some time and I'll let you know.

Over katten?

About ELFA

What life with ELFA looks like

ELFA is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hondenzorg en Welzijn Europa in —.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting ELFA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ELFA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hondenzorg en Welzijn Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ELFA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ELFA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hondenzorg en Welzijn Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ELFA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ELFA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hondenzorg en Welzijn Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know ELFA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
