adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Elisabeth has found its own home! Her story: Some dogs conquer the world in a storm. Elisabeth on the other hand sneaks in quietly and cautiously into your heart! The approximately 2.5-year-old and nearly 40 cm tall female dog has a handline athletic figure with a weight of just under 9.6 kg. In the house, she behaves impeccably, is house-trained, lies calmly on her spot, and patiently waits for food. She is compatible with dogs, living in her foster home with a female dog, where she likes to orient herself. A confident fellow animal in the new home would give her security and orientation. Elisabeth is curious and lively for her age. She is more attached to women than men. She loves walks, is alert and interested, and gets along well with passing pedestrians, cars, and roller skaters. Large, loud crowds still intimidate her. She is still reserved towards unfamiliar dogs, but a walk together is not a problem. Elisabeth is house-trained and travels comfortably in her crate in the car. Elisabeth is no couch potato. From her energy, one could conclude that perhaps a Terrier mix is in her. She would like to run, explore, and could even develop into an enthusiastic jogging companion. Elisabeth requires dog-experienced people with empathy and patience who can give her enough time to learn and settle in. Children should already be older and dog-experienced to allow the young female dog to settle in at her own pace. Due to her insecurity, we see Elisabeth more suited for a home on the outskirts of town or in rural surroundings. On a remote country road near our shelter in Fantanele, Elisabeth was discovered at the age of about 5 months with her two siblings, Tonia and Chuli, and brought to us. Fortunately, because of this, the now grown-up trio has a real chance to be rehomed into a protected home and not to live a neglected life as unwanted street dogs. After getting used to and building trust with her people, Elisabeth would also surely enjoy a visit to a dog training class with positive reinforcement, which would strengthen the bond again. Elisabeth is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. She has an EU pet passport and can be rehomed after a positive assessment. Heartfelt thanks to Stefanie M. for the lovely name and the resulting identity. Many thanks to Nikolas Aschmetat for the beautiful photos of Elisabeth! As of 02.04.

Stand 02.04.2025

About Elisabeth

What life with Elisabeth looks like

Elisabeth is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elisabeth, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elisabeth?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elisabeth on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elisabeth if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elisabeth already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elisabeth isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elisabeth and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
