Eliza

Unknown

Eliza Szylkretka was probably sitting near a pizzeria for several weeks. A person passing by noticed the hunched cat with her head hanging down. No one from the neighborhood touched or took the cat, because they were afraid she might have some disease, sometimes they gave her food. The cat has a chronic intestinal disease. In spring 2024, the disease flared up. IBD got out of control. Sometimes we lost hope that we would be able to help her. It was difficult, the effects came slowly, but they are there and probably we can finally breathe a sigh of relief, because we have a treatment plan that works. IBD is a disease that will stay with Elizka for the rest of her life. Cats with health problems have significantly lower chances of being adopted, but we try anyway. Eliza is an adult cat, very affectionate towards people. Type 100% lap cat. She gets along well with other cats, she doesn't have any problems in this regard. Szylkretka will never be a healthy cat, but she can be a stable one. How long, we don't know, because cats can suddenly go through a decline at any moment. The cat must be on a diet and take medication every day, and it will be like that for the rest of her life. She is in Toruń, she is looking for a home throughout Poland. However, it would be best if it were our area, so that Eliza can be under the care of her veterinarian. Szylkretka is virtually supported by: Karolina Ż.

PL·Show original

About Eliza

What life with Eliza looks like

Eliza is a adult cat waiting at Fundacja Kot Toruń in Poland.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eliza, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eliza?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Kot Toruń handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eliza on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eliza if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Kot Toruń will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eliza already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eliza isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Kot Toruń early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eliza and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
