Adopt Elli

German Shepherd · Female · Adult · 7 years

Elli had a meeting with Stefan Ostendörp in July 2025. The dear Stefan is a street photographer who makes beautiful videos from his encounters on the street, in which the stories of people and dogs are told. For us, he came to the animal shelter and made a video and magical photos of Elli. Watch for yourself: By clicking the video, you accept YouTube's privacy policy. Update March 2024: Elli is our loving whirlwind. This pretty female German Shepherd is a real snuggle bug, yet one must not forget why she ended up in our animal shelter. She has a problem, and that is her explosive power. Due to a lack of impulse control, frustration tolerance, and self-regulation, she has developed a leash aggression towards fellow animals, leading to biting incidents against both dogs and people in the past. Elli landed in our animal shelter and is classified as dangerous, with a muzzle and leash requirement, and is being trained by our behavior trainer for her behavioral assessment. Elli learns very quickly and has developed well. She loves people and is slowly getting a handle on unfamiliar dogs and is also calming down better herself. Elli runs well on the leash, knows all basic commands, and responds well to clear guidance from a person. If you are a dog-experienced person looking for a loyal companion with that special extra something, then Elli is exactly the right female dog for you. However, you should avoid cycling and dog sports with her, as she has a spondylitis and hip dysplasia. These do not limit her in everyday life, and Elli is pain-free. Mantrailing, longe work, and obedience would not be a problem. Elli is a great dog and just plain fun. We recommend that children in the new family be stable, at least 14 years old, and cautious. Elli is not compatible with cats, but would benefit from being an only dog. If Elli has caught your interest, please contact us for a meet-and-greet. Elli looks forward to you! About Elli

What life with Elli looks like

Elli is a adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Jübberde in Uplengen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elli, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elli?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Jübberde handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elli on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elli if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Jübberde will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elli already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elli isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Jübberde early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elli and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
