Elsa

European Shorthair · Female · Senior · 14 years

Elsa has been living with us for many years and, unfortunately, because of her character she has had no luck so far in finding a home. She is a shy and calm cat who does not yet allow herself to be touched. She is afraid of strangers and hides in her caves when visitors come, which is why, sadly, she receives no inquiries. However, with people she likes and knows, she has no problems and comes running right over at feeding time. She is also a very submissive cat who quickly becomes the victim of bullying in cat groups. She gets along wonderfully with Emmi, though, and would love to move out together with her. At midday the two like to lie together on the scratching post and simply enjoy being close to one another. Her blood values were checked in September 2025 – everything is fine. Her teeth were also checked, and her remaining teeth had to be removed. She has no teeth left now, but she copes wonderfully with it. She can also continue to eat dry food and treats such as Knusperkissen without any problems. This gorgeous senior is looking for a calm home with plenty of places to retreat to, together with Emmi. Until then, she urgently needs sponsors!

DE·Show original

About Elsa

What life with Elsa looks like

Elsa is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Ludwigshafen in Germany.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elsa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elsa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elsa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elsa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Elsa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elsa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elsa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
