Elsa

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 6 months

Elsa, a female puppy, has been at the shelter since October 2026. She was born around April 2026 and is estimated to grow to 40-59 cm in height and weigh 20-35 kg. Elsa is friendly and open to people, enjoying being petted. She is still young and has a lot to discover and learn. With her open nature, she has the potential to become a great companion. It will be exciting to see how her character develops over the coming months. Elsa is growing at her own pace, learning and showing her wonderful personality. If you want more information about Elsa, please contact our placement team. If nothing matches the description, please delete the entire container. We suspect that HUNDENAME is a Herdenschutzhund (HSH). HSH mixes are often very independent and need a confident leader. HUNDENAME has a short tail. It is unclear whether his/her tail is naturally short or was docked. HUNDENAME is currently underweight. Animals on the streets or in killing stations often receive little to no food, so they become very thin. However, the shelter provides Elsa with more food and she should soon be at a normal weight. HUNDENAME had Parvovirus disease. Fortunately, the little one survived the virus. Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any questions, please send us a message. Elsa is still at the beginning of her life as a dog and should have the chance to grow up in a family of her own. Therefore, we urgently need a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little dog - a place where she can discover the world, build trust and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: As soon as house training is done, the "wild puberty" often starts - full of energy, uncertainties and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that humans and dogs go through together - with ups and downs and many learning moments. We wish for this dog to find people with patience, empathy and perseverance - and with the understanding that rescue dogs often already have a certain history. How they react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: Adopting instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal, but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. In love yet? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are thinking about adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated and neutered before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, please send our placement team a message.

About Elsa

What life with Elsa looks like

Elsa is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elsa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elsa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elsa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elsa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Elsa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elsa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elsa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
