πŸ‘‰πŸ» Meet Elsie! A gentle and resilient girl who has shown incredible bravery after a very difficult start, slowly rebuilding her confidence and learning that she is safe. ⚧️ Sex: Female πŸŽ‚ Age: Approx. 2 years old 🦴 Breed: Spitz Mix πŸ“ Size: Small 🐱 Cat friendly: Not yet tested πŸ• Dog friendly: Not yet tested πŸ‘Ά Child friendly: Adult-only or calm older children preferred (pending further assessment) 🏑 Ideal home: A calm, patient home that will allow Elsie to continue healing at her own pace. A quiet environment with gentle guidance, understanding, and time to build trust. πŸ“– Elsie’s Story πŸ“– Elsie was found in November 2025 in a terrible state by rescuer Snezana during a Whispaws street feeding run. She had been left to fend for herself and had suffered a dog attack, leaving her with two deep bite wounds to her neck. We couldn’t walk away. Elsie was taken straight to the vet, where it was discovered she was also battling pancreatitis and heartworm on top of her injuries. Due to the seriousness of her condition, Elsie remained hospitalised for several weeks. She received intensive treatment for pancreatitis and careful wound management. Though very frightened at first, she showed incredible bravery, slowly learning to trust the vets and nurses caring for her. By late January, Elsie was strong enough to leave hospital and move to a quiet, separate space in pansion. There, in a calm environment, she has been gently decompressing and rebuilding her confidence. Today, her wounds are healing beautifully. Her skin has almost fully grown over the injury sites, her fur is beginning to return and her confidence is blossoming alongside it. She is being gradually introduced to calm, well-socialised smaller dogs and is settling into a peaceful routine. 🐾 Rehabilitation & Adoption Plan 🐾 Elsie is still undergoing heartworm treatment and continuing her emotional recovery. She will only be available for adoption once:

About Elsie

What life with Elsie looks like

Elsie is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Whispaws Animal Sanctuary in Serbia (UK-managed).

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΈAdopting from Serbia

Frequently asked

Adopting Elsie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elsie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Whispaws Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elsie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elsie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Whispaws Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elsie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elsie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Whispaws Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elsie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SR). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
